On the weekend of July 15th, 2006, the Mayor of Merzifon, Hayati Incekul, died in a tragic car accident. Akif Gulle, an AKP Member of Parliament from Merzifon, was in the same car and was badly injured. They were returning from a ceremony in a nearby town attended by Prime Minister Erdogan. Hayati Incekul leaves behind a wife and two young children, both of whom attended our Summer English Program in 2004. We offer our deep sympathies to the family and the people of Merzifon.
The July/August 2006 edition of National Geographic Traveler contains a complimentary article on Istanbul titled Rising Turks: Instanbul clings to its ancient past and surges into the future as a modern metropolis. The three-page article lists sightseeing and cultureal highlights, shopping, restaurants, food markets, and suggested lodging. It's wonderfully upbeat.
Friends of Merzifon participated in the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase, something they have done for the past three years. Almost 500 people visited the exhibits. Click on the link above to see the FoM display. |
